MISSION 4938

Mission 4938

Gaming, History, and Community with Purpose

Mission 4938 is the official gaming and digital media initiative of Francis E. Hamilton VFW Post 4938 in Edmond, Oklahoma.

What began as a simple idea—veterans gathering online to play games together—has grown into a digital community where veterans, families, and supporters connect through gaming, history, storytelling, and conversation.

Community today is built both in person and online. Mission 4938 brings the spirit of the Veterans of Foreign Wars into the digital space, creating a welcoming environment where veterans and supporters can gather, relax, share experiences, and build friendships that extend far beyond the screen.

Mission 4938 isn’t about creating the best gamers. It’s about building a community where veterans and supporters can connect, share experiences, and support one another.

Meet Franky the Eagle

The Heart of Mission 4938

At the center of Mission 4938 is Franky the Eagle, a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of American veterans.

Franky is named after Francis Edward Hamilton, the namesake of Francis E. Hamilton VFW Post 4938.

Francis Edward Hamilton was born on July 20, 1920, in Kansas. After his father’s passing, his family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, where they became active members of the community.

In 1939 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces, serving with the 32nd Photography Squadron, 5th Reconnaissance Group.

On April 20, 1944, Francis was aboard the SS Paul Hamilton in the Mediterranean Sea when the ship was struck by enemy torpedoes. The resulting explosion destroyed the vessel and claimed the lives of all 580 men aboard, including Francis Hamilton. His remains were never recovered.

Today he is remembered at the North Africa American Cemetery in Tunisia and Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Franky carries his legacy forward, reminding us of the sacrifices made by those who served and inspiring us to honor their memory through the Mission 4938 community.

What We Do

Mission 4938 produces a variety of live and recorded content that blends gaming, history, creative expression, and community engagement.

Live Gaming Streams

Gaming is the foundation that brings the Mission 4938 community together.

Our streams are not about being the best players or chasing competitive rankings. Instead, gaming provides a shared activity that allows veterans, supporters, and friends to gather, talk, laugh, and build connections.

The games give us something to do together, but the real focus is the community that grows around them. Every conversation, shared experience, and new friendship is more important than any match result.

At Mission 4938, the goal isn’t to create the best gamers—it’s to build a strong and supportive community where veterans and supporters feel welcome.

Watch-Along Events and Historical Context

Mission 4938 watch-along streams explore historic films, wartime cartoons, military training films, and other media from the past.

Rather than simply watching the material, these streams dive deeper into the historical context behind what we are seeing, discussing the time period in which the material was created and how its messages connect to the present day.

These conversations bring a veteran perspective to the material while helping audiences better understand the history and experiences that shaped it.

What We Carry

Veteran Poetry

What We Carry is a poetry series dedicated to the voices of veterans.

Through readings of original poems written by veterans, the project explores the emotions, memories, and reflections that come with military service.

Service leaves lasting impressions that are not always easy to explain. Poetry provides a powerful way to express those experiences through carefully chosen words.

What We Carry highlights the creative voices within the veteran community and reminds us that some of the most meaningful expressions of service come through art and reflection.

Beneath the Wrong Colored Moon

Beneath the Wrong Colored Moon is an original horror anthology written by veteran author C.W. Boylan.

The series explores strange places, quiet towns, and unsettling moments where the familiar world begins to feel slightly wrong. Drawing on elements of folklore, quiet suspense, and psychological horror, the stories focus on the slow realization that something beneath the surface of everyday life may not belong there.

C.W. Boylan is a veteran and writer whose work blends folklore, psychological horror, and atmospheric storytelling.
